Amethyst at three weeks!

Sorry there are no pictures, but here is a video of Amethyst playing at three weeks.  She is so cute and bouncy and energetic!

She weighed 15.7 pounds at three weeks.  I love this baby goat!

Dog, Cat, Goat Photo Hodge Podge

First up, that is not blood on the noses of my goats.  It is molasses from their goat tubs.  It's so ugly, but they sure do love the extra protein and calories in the winter.  :D

They LOVED the brush pile, but I couldn't get the camera fast enough.  Oh well, I got this shot of Jasper standing on a log and rubbing his horns against a branch.

Can't leave out sweet Amethyst.

ALL of the pictures I took today with the camera were blurry for some reason.  I may need to clean the lens.  It's so annoying because I couldn't tell until after I uploaded them to the computer.... pout.  I did the best I could editing them, but it's hard to sharpen up a blurry photo without making it look even worse....

I did manage the catch the awesome photo below though!

She can fly!!  Amethyst catches some serious air off of that table.  I wish I'd been crouched down so you could tell how high she got, but if I crouch by the fence she won't leave me alone and I can't get pictures... sigh.  :D

 Jackal enjoying some sunshine.

 OrangeJello enjoying some sun too.

Such a cute face!!  He needs brushed.....

Jasper and Pearl enjoying their outside time in the yard.

It looks like he's getting ready to charge me, but he was cautiously approaching the cat.

 Poser!  I love his beard.

Jade was a lot braver than I expected.  She walked right up to the cat.

Well that's all for today.  I had a bunch more pictures, but they are too blurry... it was a bad time of day for lighting too.  Oh well.  That's the update for this weekend.

Oh I almost forgot!!  Here is another video of Amethyst playing.  She is too cute for words!!

Direct Link

Hubby carried Amethyst up to the house so my mom and grandparents could pet her.  She did really well, resting calmly in his arms and letting everyone ooh and ah over her.  When we were inside my grandparent's house she finally let out a small bleat, so we told them it was time to take her back to her mom and left.  That was the only time she cried though.  I was so proud of her.  Coral wasn't happy, but she didn't try to kill herself or anything... that's an improvement over how she used to be.  Well that's all for now.

Amethyst loves her new toy!

Amethyst is two weeks old!  She already weight thirteen point four pounds. My husband works at a school and the teachers sometimes throw things out that are still perfectly good.  He snagged this table and Amethyst LOVES it!

This picture is blurry, but so cute!  I can't believe I got her in mid jump.  Sometimes cell phones are nice lol.  Below is a short video of her playing on her table.  I'll have to get a better one some other time.

I also got a close up video of her face so you can see her pretty eyes.  They are mostly blue with some brown mottling.  Her eyes make me think of her sire Crockett.  I miss him, but I'm so happy I have Amethyst to remember him by.

I love this baby goat!  I forgot how much fun they are and how attached I get to them so quickly.  I'm going to have to be careful not to get attached to the boys since we will be selling them.  Well besides Apatite of course.  I'll totally let myself get attached to him hehe.  I can't wait to meet him!  That's all for today.  I'll try to get more later.  I'm hoping tomorrow I can get pictures and video with the camera instead of all of these cell phone pictures.  I'll post again as soon as possible.

Jasper Update

While we were busy last weekend with goat herd maintenance and building birthing stalls, we also caught Jasper and weighed him again.  At ten months old he's finally 105 pounds!  That's not huge compared to Boers from certain blood lines, but these guys are from a commercial meat herd, not fancy show bloodlines, so I think that's a decent weight.  I was hoping he'd reach 100lbs before he turned a year old.  While weighing him I snapped some pictures for you.

Cute face!  His nose is all covered in minerals hehe.

Looking good.  he's growing a beard and really starting to look so grown up.

He wasn't happy about being caught and haltered, but he does eat out of our hands still.  I wish I had to time to spend taming all of them.  Too bad they don't all tame themselves like Topaz lol.

Just for comparisons sake, here are some older pictures in chronological order.

Also below is a selfie I took with him back in January that I don't think I ever posted.  I chopped half of us out, but I still like it.

Introducing Apatite!

I'm so excited!  We put down a deposit on this guy on Saturday!!  He is a purebred registered Myotonic buckling (same breed that Crockett was).  He was born on 1-13-17, so it will be another month before we can make the looooooooooong drive to go pick him up (really wish there were local Myotonic breeders lol).  Since she hadn't sent his papers in yet we got to pick out his name and we decided to call him Apatite, sticking with our gemstone (and minerals) theme, since goats are always hungry it seems fitting hehe.  I'm worried people will think I'm misspelling appetite, if they've never heard of Apatite the mineral, but oh well.  His full name is Apatite For That and it's a play on the saying "I've got an app for that" since my husband is an IT guy.

Isn't he adorable???  We had the choices narrowed down to three and it literally took hours to decide, but I think we made the right choice.  The choices were between him (he's a twin), or a single buckling whose mom always has singles or a bottle baby that is a triplet.  I really didn't want to have to bottle feed and we didn't want the single because a lot of our does were singles and since it's genetic we really needed a multiple, so we chose him.  It was a very difficult decision, but in the end that was our deciding factor.

He is so cute!  I can't wait to bring him home!  Below is a picture from the day he was born.

Below is his sire.

Isn't he a chunk??

His sire and grand sire were Grand Champions!  :D

Below is his mom.  His litter mate was black and white like their mom.

There will obviously be a million more pictures when he comes home in a month.  I can't wait!!  I'm excited to raise our new herd sire from weaning so that we can get him tamed and halter broke like Crockett was.  I really don't want to deal with half feral bucks anymore.

Amethyst's First Day Out

Yesterday we opened up the door that leads to the small pen outside for Coral and Amethyst.  So yesterday was baby's first day out!!

Coral didn't want to come out because I was in the pen, but Amethyst got brave and came out on her own.

Coral eventually came out.  She was on high alert!

Amethyst approached me out in the pen.  I was afraid the extra freedom would make her skittish like her mom, so I was very happy she came over to be for some scratches.

She had so much fun playing outside!

Here is the video.  Fair warning, you might want to turn your sound down.  I'm not used to recording with a phone and there is a lot of LOUD snapping, popping and other noise from me handling the phone and taking snapshots during the video.  The noise isn't important to enjoy watching her play though. :)

I hope you are enjoying Amethyst as much as I am.  She is so much fun!  I have big news that I'll share tomorrow so make sure to check back!

P.S.  We weighed her again yesterday and she was nine pounds and twelve ounces!!!  She was exactly a week old yesterday and weighed six pounds, nine ounces the day she was born.  That's a big gain in one week.  :D

Jack loves stuffed animals!

I don't think I've shared a video of this for you yet... you'll love it!

I hope everyone can see it.  I know some of you have slow internet and won't be able to watch it.  :(  He is so adorable when he plays with his headless stuffed turtle!

Quick Picture

Just had to share my first selfie with Amethyst!

I'll definitely have more videos and pictures this weekend.  She is SO much fun!!  No matter how bad my day at work is I can go sit in the hay and play with my baby goat and it's all good again.  :D
