Goat Catch Up Post II - New faces in the herd!!

I never mentioned this, but right before Apatite got sick we had put a down payment on two Myotonic does from the same breeder we got App from, because why have a purebred buck and no purebred does right?  When he got sick, spent four days in the hospital and eventually died I was heartbroken, we had huge vet bills and we no longer had a purebred Myotonic buck so there was no point in getting the does.  The breeder was kind enough to give us our deposit back.  I was doubly devastated.

So back at the end of September when hubby and I were on vacation (I'll post about that after the goat catch up posts) hubby happened to look at the breeder's website.  The same does that we had tried to buy were still up for sale, but this time they were exposed to a buck.  It had been a couple of months since Apatite died and the pain was easing up.  We talked about it and decided we wanted to go ahead and try again.  Since they were pregnant it wouldn't matter that we didn't have a buck.

Next thing you know we had two goats in the back of the car!

Meet Georgia!

She is a purebred Myotonia doe that turns eight years old in a few days.  Their age is the reason the breeder was selling them, but they should still produce kids for several more years.  It's a good way for us to get really good quality does for an affordable price.  She was bred to the Diego, who was Apatite's dad.

Also meet Zephyr!

She is also a purebred Myotonic doe and she turns eight in March.  They look a lot alike, but they actually are not related at all.  She was bred to a buck named Daniel.

They had to be quarantined, but they had each other for company so they did fine during it.  We had to keep them away from the other goats until we got their blood work back (which we checked even though they were negative when the breeder tested them... better safe than sorry).  I'll post more on that later.  For now enjoy the rest of the pictures.  Aren't they gorgeous??

Zephyr is the one with the white spot on her forehead and side.

They are so gorgeous.  I love how similar their markings are, even though they are unrelated.  Aren't Zephyr's blue eyes so pretty??  Check out Jasper in the background. He is twice their weight!

That's all for now.  Be sure to check out the next post for..... more new faces!

  1. I don't think I've ever seen a goat with blue eyes. She's gorgeous. So is your other lady. Very pretty girls. Good luck with everything.

    1. It's really cool isn't it? In a lot of goat breeds like the Boer it is a fault or just genetically doesn't happen, but in the Myotonics it is accepted and a lot of people try to breed for it. You know Amethyst has blue eyes right? I don't know if you saw the posts from when she was born back in February. They look so pretty on her against her black markings. :)
