My Belated Thanksgiving Post

Hi, everyone!  I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving.  I've finally stopped feeling sorry for myself (about canceling my vacation with my family and surprise road trip due to stomach flu) so I figured I would write a post about what I'm thankful for.  About time huh?

I'm thankful for my dad, my mom and my siblings.  I'm thankful for their patience and love.  I'm thankful for my husband.  For his love, loyalty and understanding.  I'm thankful for my extended family and for Facebook since that's one of the main ways we are able to keep in touch since we live so far apart.  I'm thankful for my husband's family for accepting me and always being welcoming when we visit.  I'm thankful for my best friend because she always knows how to cheer me up and how to have fun, even when we're broke.  :D  I'm thankful for all of my animals.  I don't know what I would do without Storm, Jackal, Chrome, Faran, Led Zeppelin, my cat and all of the birds.  They provide we with so much comfort and so many laughs!  I'm thankful that I have a house to live in and a job to provide me with the money to have a house and food.  I'm thankful for my car which gets me to work everyday.  I'm thankful for my camera so that I can go out and take pictures of my awesome critters.  :D  And there are many other things I'm thankful for, but those are the main ones.  I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

My husband's photos from our scenic drive the other day.....

Remember the photos I posted the other day from our drive up a scenic highway to take pictures of the fall colors?  If you missed it you can find it here  I finally had time to watermark the photos my husband took and figured I would share those too.  I think he did a much better job at getting the fall colors than I did lol.  I was too preoccupied trying to get pictures of the dogs.  One track mind lol.  So here they are....

Jackal wanted to sniff whatever Storm was sniffing, but he couldn't get around her so he went under her LOL!

This picture shows their height difference really well lol.  :)

30 Before 30 - #10 Complete

I completed #10 on my 30 Before 30 Bucket List!! So you don't have to go back and look at the list here is number ten:

10. Print out a coffee table book of photos I've taken. I think it would be really cool to have a book of my own photos. Although I don't have a coffee table anymore lol. I got a free digital picture frame (it's not here yet) so I'll definitely be putting all of my favorite photos on it, but I still want a book too someday.

And here is a video of the book.  I sped it up so you don't have to sit watching it for three minutes.  I had it made by Shutterfly and it wasn't unreasonably priced since I used a 50% off sale when I ordered it lol.  I think it turned out great and I'm pretty excited.  Check it out and let me know what you think.  :D

Also, sorry the video blurs sometimes.  I should have used my other camera.  I always forget the video is weird on the camera.  Trust me the photos turned out great.  Not blurry at all.  :)

The last of my garden...

We picked the last of our garden since it's finally freezing at night.  We have 25 pounds of peppers!  In the left box is jalapeno pepper with baby loofah gourds on top.  Middle box is bell peppers.  Right box is pablano peppers.  The bowl on the right side is banana peppers, sweet joline peppers and paprika peppers.  The big green things are loofah gourds (when you dry them, peel them and cut them up they make loofah sponges).  And along the front is okra.  :D

This shows you how big the boxes are.  They can hold four six packs of canned coca cola.  That's all jalapeno peppers.  :D

Happy Veteran's Day

I borrowed this from a friend on Facebook of her awesome Friesian stallion Keegan, because it sums up what I wanted to say.  Happy Veteran's Day!  Thank you to all of the veterans who served past, present and future! You guys (and girls) are awesome!

Also, thank you to my friends over at Army of Four for reminding me that today was Veteran's Day because for some reason I thought it was tomorrow lol!  Be sure to check out their post today.  The pictures are awesome!

Coon Dog!

Note:  If you are against hunting, killing predators to protect your chickens or seeing pictures of dead animals, do not read this post!  Thanks!

Some of you may remember that we originally got Jackal as a companion for Storm, but we chose a Beagle/Mountain Cur cross because we wanted a squirrel dog.  Jackal's dad was an awesome squirrel dog!!  Sadly Jackal just doesn't seem interested in squirrels!  He's much more interested in chasing rabbits and protecting the property from opossums and raccoons.

For those of you who continued reading although you're not too thrilled about the idea of killing predators, it is not against the law here and it's sort of necessary because of overpopulation problems.  About the only thing out there to kill the coons and possums are coyotes and we're too close to the city for them to really come around too much, so we have tons of possums and coons (and skunks, they are all over the road lately and they have tested positive for rabies too).  There's also been a SCARY number of positive rabies cases in the coons and our neighbor has a horse that contracted EPM from the possums, so both of them are on my number one enemy list.  That's besides the fact that they are stealing my eggs and killing my chickens.

So anyway, I went out to feed the horses after dark and Jackal was on the back deck watching me.  Suddenly he started doing his predatory bark and I knew there was something out there.  A lot of times it's a false alarm (our cat) and sometimes it's deer, but not this time!!  My husband was shining the flashlight around looking, but couldn't find what he was barking at so I let Jackal out of the dog yard.  He bolted down into the back yard and started throwing himself at the chicken house.  Jackal is only nineteen inches tall, but I swear he was jumping three or four feet high up against the sides of that chicken house.  I let him into the chicken yard and he started circling the chicken house, still jumping up against it and barking like mad.

My husband finally spotted the raccoon hiding up in the tree right above the chicken house (so now we know how they are getting in the pen which has six foot fences!).  So my husband took care of it and below is a picture if you want to see how big it was.  Don't worry there's no blood in the picture.  :)

My big giant clown foot is in the picture to show you size.  I feel bad for killing the coon because I love coons.  They are so adorable!  I can't have them killing my chickens or my brother in laws chickens (we're taking them to him soon, he lives out of state) though, so we did what we had to do.

So anyway, even though I'm sad about the coon dying I was so proud of Jackal for treeing his first coon!  I have no interest in coon hunting at all though so I do really wish he would tree squirrels lol, but it came in handy for protecting our chickens.  I would have been a lot more upset to lose one of them.

To see Chrome's reaction to the raccoon check out his blog!

Going for a drive & fall colors!

I think Storm was carsick from the steep, winding roads.

Sorry it took me so long to post these pictures that I mentioned in my last post.  We took the dogs for a drive down a scenic highway and stopped at an overlook for pictures.  I was trying to get shots of the fall colors because it's been so pretty lately, but they didn't come out very good in pictures.  So we took the dogs for a walk at a horse camp that was down the road.  I really want to take Chrome to the horse camp someday!  Anyway here are the pictures.  My husband had a camera too.  When I get done uploading and watermarking them I'll post them too.  My old camera seemed to capture the colors a lot better than the new one I was using.  :)

I used my panoramic feature for this one.  Make sure to click and enlarge it.  :)

 They are sooooo cute!!!!

A solid sit/down stay is so handy to have for taking pictures.  They were not tied up to anything, just to each other lol.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures!

Cute Pictures of the Dogs

For those of you who follow my horse blog (One Friesian Sporthorse, One Percheron & One Donkey) you know I've been taking lots of pictures!  I figured it wasn't fair to only take pictures of the horses so I took the dogs out for a shoot a few days ago too.  I'll be posting more over the next few days so stick around.  :D

Storm's Eyes Update

Storm is doing great.  Apparently the reason the medicine wasn't working is because I didn't know I was supposed to do it twice a day.  Now that I'm doing it twice a day her eyes are doing sooooo much better.  :D  Yay!

Now if some things will calm down at work and I'll start feeling better (I think the stress is getting to me) maybe I'll be able to do something fun with the dogs that I can post on here lol.  Sorry it's been so quiet.  We aren't really doing a fall garden this year, so there isn't much farm related stuff going on.  I promise this blog will recover someday hehe.

Here are some pictures at least to make it up to you.  :)

Check out the water drop in front of her!

My stalker.  She follows me everywhere.  She's fascinated by my camera hehe.

Cute Zep Zep!

Oops!  I meant to schedule this to post tomorrow.  Sorry for the double post lol.

Adorable video!

Someone posted this on Facebook and I had to share.  How cute!  I love Corgis!

Sorry they have embed disabled so you'll have to click the link.
