Jack Update!

In the winter Jack stays in his indoor cage so that he doesn't freeze to death. I have a video with a few clips of him being his adorable self.

If you can't watch videos here are some pictures.  They aren't very good, but still better than nothing.  Isn't he adorable?

Chewing a block of wood.  He loves destroying stuff.

 Cuddles!

 He loves his cuddles.

He also loves asparagus!

I love this little guy. He's so awesome!  Sorry it's been so long since I updated about Jack.  I don't have a whole lot of time for editing videos.  At least you can see how well he is doing now.

Jack Update

It's been a while since I've given a squirrel update.  Jack will be a year old in a month!  I can't believe it.  Time flies!  He's doing really well.  It's hard to get pictures of him because he rarely stops moving.  He does take short rest breaks when he gets hot though, then we're able to snap cute pictures like the one below.

I love how he splays himself out flat.  He is so cute!

He's discovered snow peas and loves them!

When he stops for a break I actually get a chance to pet him hehe.  Normally he just wants to wrestle.  Also yes I actually do have to wear a thick jacket when I play with him because his claws hurt when he climbs all over me.  It is HOT wearing that thing in the summer!

Here is a short video of him enjoying a short ear scratch before he goes back to roughhousing with me.

Isn't he adorable????

P.S.  I have a story I forgot to share with you guys.  Jack was out playing on the porch (supervised) when he stumbled upon a red wasp... it stung him on the paw and he went flipping across the porch like a Mexican jumping bean chattering and growling (squirrely expletives).  We were about eight feet away when it happened. We kept our distance because he gets aggressive when hurt and just talked soothingly to him. He finally climbed on top of the dove's cage and was inspecting his foot. At first he couldn't sit up because he wouldn't put weight on his paw.  He kept falling over because he couldn't balance sitting up on his haunches with one foot in the air.  Finally he just stretched out on his belly and lay really still.

We finished cleaning his cage and water bowl, then put his evening snacks in and thank goodness he put himself in his cage when we walked away. He was jumping, climbing and sitting up to eat, but he was definitely still in pain an hour later. When I tried to look in his wire windows he jumped right at my face aggressively. His paw was pretty swollen.

I of course was panicking because I didn't know if he could have an allergic reaction that would kill him.  I contacted some squirrel knowledgeable people and they told me to give him Benadryl and infant ibuprofen and how much to dose him.  The only way to get medicine in him was to put it on a pecan and hope he'd eat it.  He did!  Then he licked it all off of his paws, which was good since it meant he got more of it in him.

Hubby was actually able to pick him up and put him in a bowl to weigh him on our kitchen scale after it got dark outside and he weighed 1.9 pounds and that's when he was eight months old!  Luckily by the next day he was totally back to normal besides a bit of swelling.  He recovered completely from the ordeal.  I now carefully check the porch for wasps before I let him out!

Jack Loves Fruit

Jack started out really picky when we weaned him, but he's gotten a lot of adventurous with trying new foods.  Of course he absolutely loves fruit.  What squirrel wouldn't??

Check out the videos below.  Sorry for the lack of photos.  Hubby prefers videos and he took most of these in recent posts on his cell phone.

..and...

I hope you're enjoying watching his cuteness as much I as do. :D

Oh I almost forgot to share a picture of where he "hid" his orange.

Yep he put it in a shoe..... silly squirrel!  You can also see what he did to my potting soil.  He has it everywhere!  It's going to take me forever to clean it up.

Jack Video

Here is a picture of Jack enjoying his honeysuckle for those of you who can't watch videos.  He's hanging from his hind legs on the screen door while chewing on his treat.  Check out the video below.

Jack loves stuffed animals!

I don't think I've shared a video of this for you yet... you'll love it!

I hope everyone can see it.  I know some of you have slow internet and won't be able to watch it.  :(  He is so adorable when he plays with his headless stuffed turtle!

Squirrel Spam 2!

Here are the rest of the pictures.  There are a bunch of him with the acorn, because it's so much easier to get pictures of him then when he's not jumping and leaping about.

I love these next two shots.  He looks like he's playing basketball with his acorn lol.

Doesn't it look like he's preparing to shoot some hoops?

Or there is this one where it looks like he's about to hike a football.
I should photoshop a jersey on him lol.

What is REALLY cute is when he "buries" his acorn.....

Hiding it in the leaves.... but even though it is in plain sight to us, to him it is invisible.  I've even seen him forget where he buried it... even though it's in plain sight lol.

This cracked me up.  He was sitting in my lap with his acorn....

Then he turned his back to me and "buried" it.....

I still see it Jack!!  Hehe.

Where did your acorn go buddy?
Don't worry I gave it back to him.

I had fun with weird angles.

Finally chomping down on that acorn.

I love that I got a picture of this.  He holds his paws up when they are cold.

Ready for his closeup!

I showed pictures in the last post of how he likes to wrestle with my hand.  When he's worn out that's when he gets cute and cuddly!

He has to be very tired to get to the cuddly stage.

So at one point he got on the ground.....

I wasn't too worried because he was so young and skittish and if anything scared him he'd run back to me.... however at one point he was on the back of a chair and I got up to go let Jackal in the house... he tried to jump on me as I walked past and missed.  I heard a thud and turned around in time to see him bolt up a tree...... a HUGE oak tree!

I freaked out!  I was terrified because the tree was right next to our house and a building and a bunch of other trees that he could take off into.  I was scared a hawk or cat or even another squirrel would attack him.  I stood helplessly at the bottom, yelling for my hubby.  He came running over and we watched as Jack went to the very end of every single limb, then turned back and went up to the next one.  He got about FIFTY feet up in that tree.  Hubby got me some sunflower seeds while I cried and called to Jack.

Eventually (I have no idea how long it was) he got tired and started making his way down the tree.  It felt like it took an eternity for him to make his way down.  He eventually crawled right into my hand and let me take him inside while he ate his sunflower seeds.  That was the very last time I took him outside intentionally.  He has escaped a couple of other times when people have opened doors, but luckily we've caught him each time.  I'm trying to convince people to stop opening doors when he's out of his cage because it terrifies me.  So it was a happy ending, even though it scared ten years off my life....

Who me?  I would never cause trouble!  ;)

Well that's all for now.  I hope you enjoyed seeing all of the pictures.  I can't get over how adorable this guy is.

Squirrel Spam!

I hope your internet is fast because I'm about to spam you with a ton of squirrel cuteness!!

These pictures are from October 8th (I haven't had time to edit them) and these were the first pictures I took of Jack with an actual camera instead of a cell phone.  I had so much fun!!  We were sitting outside on the patio furniture so he could soak up some sunshine and so I could take pictures.  I might have to split this into two posts because there are so many.  Enjoy!!

We are Jack's human trees.

I LOVE closeups of his adorable face.

 Upside down squirrel!

I wish I'd had the camera set up for high speeds.  This is what he looks like most of the time.
His nickname is Sonic/Tasmanian Devil/Velociraptor/etc.  You get the idea hehe.

Jackal supervises.  He likes watching Jack, but he hates being pounced on by him lol.

Speaking of being pounced on... if you see this look... be ready to have a squirrel attached to you.

Three, Two, One, Launch!

He also chews on everything!

Shoelaces....

Camera straps...

Fingers... sorry it's out of focus.

He loves wrestling!

I hold my hand up to him, while he sizes me up...

Then he pounces.

He either jumps over my hand and attacks from behind or goes face on like in the above picture.

He's SO cute!  That's all for this post.  The rest of the pictures will be in the next post and there is a hair raising story to go along with it, so be sure to check back.
