Want to know what is the cutest thing ever?? A baby squirrel learning to eat solid foods!!!!!!! Jack was so cute when he first started learning to hold things in his paws and to taste new solid foods. I'll let the photos and video speak for themselves. :D
He was trying so hard to sit up with the food in his paws.
He very quickly learned to carry his food off and hide it.
It's so crazy the things he does that all squirrels do even without a role model showing him. Instincts are strong in these little guys!
See the apple slice between his paws?
Then he picked it up and I almost died at the cuteness!
He had to learn to eat his rodent food and squirrel block before he was allowed to have tastier things because they get very picky, very quickly. Yes I used a terracotta pot for his first house lol.
He eventually got to start tasting new things like the apple above and these greens.
I'm mean, I put it on his head hehe. He wasn't sure what to do.
He quickly mastered sitting up and eating from his paws! So cute!
Smart guy was using the cage to prop up on while learning his balance.

Check out this video of him learning to eat his rodent food.
I wish I had gotten more pictures of when he was a baby. He was so cute! That's all for this post. Next post is of him learning to climb. :)
Oh I almost forgot, the things he's learned to eat so far are his squirrel block, two kinds of rat food, collard greens, kale, strawberries, papaya, apples, sunflower seeds, acorns, pecans, lettuce, carrots, sweet potatoes, raspberries, blackberries, etc. I know I'm forgetting stuff. He always has his salt, mineral salt, cuttlebone, deer antlers, etc. available for calcium and wearing his teeth down. Squirrels can die from calcium deficiencies so it's very important he get lots of calcium. He also is only allowed a limited amount of seeds and nuts because they can cause obesity in pet squirrels. The main part of his diet is his squirrel block and rat food because they are formulated to keep him healthy. Then he gets healthy fruits and veggies. Nuts and seeds are snacks. I may talk more about squirrel diet later, but I have to run. I'll try to post again soon.
Just too much cuteness!
