Ouch!

Well I somehow managed to separate my toenail from my toe and it hurts so bad. I was actually sent home from work because I was so dizzy from pain that I couldn't do my job. :( When it first happened it hurt, but wasn't unmanageably painful so I soaked my foot in salt water. It was bleeding. Now I've put a sock back on to keep it clean and I'm terrified to look at it since it's been all day. I can feel the nail move and it makes me dizzy and sick to my stomach. I have very poor pain tolerance and a weak stomach. So for now I'm keeping it propped up and being careful not to bump it. I might try to put a bandaid on it later to stabilize the nail (it's not broken, just separated). Anyone else ever done this have any suggestions? I don't have to be back at work until Monday so I hope I'm okay to wear shoes by then. Anyone know how long it take for the skin under the nail to heal? I know it will take a while for the nail to grow back out and reattach, but just curious how long it'll hurt. Anyway sorry for the downer post. Thanks in advance for any advice. I hope everyone has a great rest of the weekend.

  1. Sounds painful :( I've lost a toenail after a horse stepped on my foot, but it happened later and didn't really hurt by the time it came off. This is kind of gross, but when it was loose I just fastened it down with a band aid and after a while it just fell off without hurting.
    Hope it feels better soon!

  2. That sounds nasty. Just the thought of it makes me dizzy. I have no experience with that sort of thing, but I suspect more than a few days. I am not certain if it will even re-attach. Just be sure to keep it clean.

  3. Yikes! Ouch! Hope it falls off or reattaches somehow. That's really gotta hurt. I've never had this happen so I can't offer any help. Heal fast.
