Back Update

I just got back from the doctor and he thinks it's a pulled muscle because of the way it hurts all the way across my ribs and I had forgotten until late last night that when I was doing Chrome's hooves the other day that I almost rolled my ankle so I let myself fall. I landed hard on my hands and knees and fell to my hip which could have definitely wrenched my back. He gave me a muscle relaxer to take at night so I just have to get through today and I'll have three days off to heal. Obviously if it doesn't get better I'll demand an xray, but my gut instinct is that it's just a pull. I've never had back problems before.

I also asked them to check my thyroid levels (because I've been exhausted and lost weight again) and we're going to check my vitamin D levels (because my mom's are very low) and my iron levels. So I'm hoping we'll find out what's going on and by this time next week I'll be all better. :) Thanks for your kind words over my post last night. I knew I'd get some advice because of how prevalent back injuries seem to be. You guys are awesome!

  1. Glad it seems like all it is is a pull. That is terrific. I'm glad you are being proactive about your health. The CBC can tell a lot about what is going on in your body.

Doesn't everyone get depressed in the winter? At least if you are up on the northern half of the country! My problem is that it is dark when I get home from work. It's daylight when I drive in, but mornings don't count--I'm too grumpy.

Hope you will be back to your old self, soon!

  2. I feel your pain! My back has been killing me this week. It always hurts (I have 3 herniated disks), but this week has been really painful. Hope you're feeling better very soon!

  3. Aw, that's terrible. Have you tried an over the counter muscle relaxant cream? That might help. I use Myoflex on my neck.

  4. I am glad to hear that your back injury seems nothing major or serious. If it is a pull of muscle, the best way to treat it is having a rest!
I hope it turns out that your weight loss is simply a result of your had work around your animals or something.

  5. Back problems stink! You can't do anything without the back being involved somehow. Sometimes mine goes into spasms and it feels like knives being stuck in. For those cases, the only thing that works are muscle relaxers which really make me loopy.

I run out of vitamin D in the winter too and my MD puts me on mega doses to get me back up to normal. Now that my kids are grown up I have a little more disposable income and indulge in a weekly massage which has done wonders to keep my back pain at bay. Good luck.
