Jack's First Time Climbing a Tree

In my never ending quest to keep Jack happy and stimulated, one day I let him climb in our cherry tree.  It is small and out in the yard by itself, so there was no way he could get into another tree and get away from us.  The only way he could have gotten away (not that he would want to) is to get on the ground, but he was terrified of being on the ground, so it wasn't an issue.  We only did this once because I'm too paranoid about him getting attacked by other squirrels or a hawk or the cats.

He got upset if we'd get too far away from him, so hubby stood next to the tree so I could step back to get pictures.

He wanted to jump on me so bad.

He was very insecure back then.

Chilling on hubby's shoulder.  So cute!

 Good practice for his balance.

He eventually got close to the ground, so we called it quits.

There are a couple of videos from that day that are awesome, but I don't have time to upload them right now.  Maybe later.

  1. I love how you think about raising this squirrel like you would your own child. If you could send him to the best preschool to give him a head start in life, I'm sure you would. You sound like you hover over him like a mother of a toddler on a playground. I was horrified by my own pet parenting skills the other day, because I opened the door to my truck without blocking Midge, and she flew off the backseat onto the hard garage floor face-first. It was about a three-foot drop. She hit her jaw and walked with a limp for a little while afterward. I felt awful. She's fine now, though.

    1. Aww thank you! You're so sweet. Don't beat yourself up about Midge. The same thing has happened to me. We can't prevent everything.
