I won't even go into the details of my day, but I will tell you the worst thing that happened and it will give you an idea how my day went. I got home from work around 10:30pm. I had my arms full of stuff when I went inside so I left the door open while I put it down on the chaise lounge. Then I went and fed the animals which took about half an hour. When I came back inside I realized Storm was gone! She apparently slipped out the door while I walked five steps into the living room to set everything down. It was open less than a minute. Jackal was still inside. I can't believe she went out the door without my permission! I've left it open a million times before. Argh!
It took an hour of searching and probably a quarter to half a tank of gas between the two cars to find her. Now at almost midnight I'm a little pissed. It's been an incredibly long day and I have to get up really early in the morning. She apparently went swimming in a pond, so I gave her a bath as her punishment. I'm proud of myself for never yelling at her or anything. Normally I'm so scared when I finally find her that I scream at her, but I didn't. I just gave her a bath. And she didn't dare whine or try to get out of the tub like she normally does. She knew she was in trouble. Good grief dog you're almost ten years old! What are you thinking!! So anyway I'm going to bed now. I'm totally exhausted.
Ha ha ha. By all of this "permission" and "punishment," you'd guess these mischievous animals were your children. I guess they are!
ReplyDeleteGah! That is the scariest. I am glad she is OK and that you found her fairly quickly. Even at ten, dogs sometimes just want an adventure or smell something way too tempting. Give her an extra hug and try to get a nap in.

That really sucks, I've had that happen before. Glad you found her and she knew she was in trouble enough to sit through any grief you gave her. The fact it happened so late is just the icing on the cake right? Hope today goes better for you.
ReplyDeleteHaving the dogs escape when the boys aren't home is one of my fears, because the dogs won't come when I call. However, for some reason, they obey deep voices, and immediately come if my husband or son call for them. They can take the dogs outside off leash and have complete control over their movements. They keep them out of the street and the sticker bushes. I always have to use a leash. It's tough when someone comes to the door, because I either have to lock the dogs in a room or put them out back before I can open the door. If it's a delivery man who needs a signature, it ends up being a long wait for him.
ReplyDeleteThat is terrifying! I am so glad you found her relatively quickly and that she is safe.
ReplyDeleteWell that does sound like a miserable night. I always wonder where they think they're going anyway. Where do they have it better than home? Glad she got a bath, she probably would have stunk up the house after bathing in the pond.
ReplyDeleteHow tuff! I'm so happy you found her though. It takes a lot of strength not to get mad. I'm sure she feels bad enough without having to fear any yelling. I think she's learned her lesson.
ReplyDeleteGreat job :)
Oh, I am so glad you got her back. I"m sure you were beside yourself with worry.
ReplyDeleteGosh - what a horrible experience!! You poor thing!
ReplyDeleteI must say, though, I had a little giggle because of the different American/UK meanings of words - when you said you were "pissed" at midnight, I thought you were saying you were drunk! HA! Ha! Coz in the UK, "pissed" means "drunk" whereas "pissed off" means "annoyed".
