Spider Bite
Last night I found what looks like a spider bite on my leg. I haven't had any systemic symptoms (nausea, headache, etc) but it is red, a little swollen and has a small blister in the middle. I can't get a doctor appointment until tomorrow morning. Has anyone here ever been bitten by a spider? Is there anything I should watch for? Should I try to find a different doctor that can see me today? Also do antibiotics help spider bites or is it being overused as with most everything else? I really hate taking antibiotics because they make me sick. Anyway thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Just keep an eye on it and try not to worry. Think of it as a bee sting. As long as you don't have an allergic reaction--and since it happened last night, you probably won't--just let it heal.
ReplyDeleteI have gotten some bites that I believed were spider bites, and they healed fine.
Thank you Judi! I tend to panic when it comes to health problems, injuries, illnesses, etc. I figured it wouldn't be severe because I haven't had systemic symptoms, but I worry about secondary infections and/or having a big hole in my leg (I shouldn't have looked at pictures of spider bites!!). I'll try to stay calm. :)
ReplyDeleteYou remind me so much of my sister. She's pretty good about not worrying too much about her health, but she has anxieties about everything else. I am constantly telling her not to worry about things.
ReplyDeleteLately, she has been worried that her cat is burping. (I told her just to give him some Pepcid, and that has helped.)
I hope you heal up quickly. We also have lots of spiders about at the moment, large females looking for somewhere to over winter. Although there aren't poisonous spiders in the UK I have been bitten by what I thought was the big hunter ones and also had blisters. They did heal quite quickly though. I HATE spiders, I'm permanently attched to the hoover for safety, lol! :D
ReplyDeleteI think most people have been bitten by spiders! It's not something to get anxious about unless you have concerning symptoms and/or it was a dangerous spider.
ReplyDeleteIn your comment here you said you worry about things like "having a big hole in my leg" after looking at pictures of spider bites. This irrational fear concerns me. Have you talked to someone about this "panic" you describe? Why do you think you panic?
On another note, spider bites can be annoying and so I hope you feel better soon. I hope your back is doing better now too.
Oh no...I have been bitten by spiders but never had anything other than a red itchy spot which was annoying. I was also bitten my a tick ON MY HEAD!!! Which was gross and caused me to freak that I had lyme's but turned out it was a dog tick from the woods. Feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteWell, it is a good thing you didn't come over to our blog for the last couple of weeks! I've been bitten by black widows several times, and it's been just about like you describe happened to you, but Mercy got bitten a couple of weeks ago and we aren't sure exactly by what, but it got really nasty. We have Black Widows, Brown Widows (which has a worse bite) and Brown Recluse around here that are poisonous. It also could have been a rattlesnake that just barely scratched her nose. I tell, on the blog, what I did for her.
