Court?! Help!

A few months ago I was working and had someone hide illegal prescription drugs in one of our bathrooms. I filled out a statement for the police on what I had seen and now I'm being summoned to court as a witness!! I have never been to court for anything and have no idea what this will involve. I really hope I don't have to get up in front of everyone because I have horrible stage fright and freeze up. I'm also going to miss work and they won't reimburse me. Has anyone had to do this before and do you know of any way to avoid going? Can a written statement be given or something? I really don't want to miss work since I'm the only one bringing home a paycheck now. Any help would be appreciated.
